MMI On Capitol Hill

Reconnecting with a Marion Native

Col. Mollahan visits with Ms. Geneva Blackburn of Birmingham, Alabama, who has made a pledge towards the Capital Campaign. Ms. Blackburn’s father was a longtime board member of MMI and former president of Marion Bank & Trust.

Florida Visits

In July, MMI President Col. David J. Mollahan, USMC (Ret) and V.P. for Institutional Advancement Mrs. Suzanne McKee met with folks in Florida on behalf of the college.

Mollahan visits Atlanta-Area Alumni

MMI President Col. David J. Mollahan, USMC (Ret) headed east to Atlanta to visit two alumni in May: Mr. Lewis Durant '43, showing off his original diploma, and Mr. Tom Wilbourne '86, a past president of the MMI Alumni Brigade.

 

 

Mollahan & McKee Attend Jimmy Rane Charity Golf Tournament

In May 2011, Col. David Mollahan and Suzanne McKee were guests at the Eleventh Annual Jimmy Rane Charity Golf Tournament at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA. Celebrity guests included well-known coaches such as Nick Saban, Gene Chizik, Pat Dye, Gene Stallings, Ozzie Newsome, and Wimp Sanderson. The guest speaker was Col. Mark Tillman, USAF (Ret), who was the pilot of Air Force One on September 11, 2001. Other featured guests included Ernest Borgnine, best known for his roles in From Here to Eternity, Marty, and McHale’s Navy, Marisa Wayne, the youngest daughter of the legendary actor John Wayne, and Anita Swift, the granddaughter of John Wayne.

Col. David J. Mollahan USMC (Ret) visited members of the Alabama Delegation in Washington, D.C. on March 1, 2011 to discuss Marion Military Institute’s role as a Military Junior College, MMI’s programs for military officer accessions, partnering with senior universities for special transfer arrangements, partnering with other civilian agencies to provide job placement opportunities for MMI cadets, and plans for program growth at MMI.

On February 8, Col. Mollahan met with Dr. Charles Moore and his family of Starkville, Miss., along representatives of Mississippi State prior to his visit with Dr. Mark Kennum, president of Mississippi State University. Col. Mollahan and Dr. Kennum discussed opportunities for developing partnerships.

 

 


In December 2010, MMI President Col. David J. Mollahan traveled to Florida for a luncheon at Tampa Yacht Club hosted by Allen Craig, MMI Class of 1982.

Col. Mollahan recently visited Tuscaloosa to meet with Dr. Robert E. Witt, President of the University of Alabama, and Dr. Ellis Eugene Marsh III, MMI Class of 1971, Dean of the College of Health Sciences at UA.

The presentation of a plaque in appreciation of construction of the baseball field and stadium was made to Mr. Scott G. Davis, MMI Class of '73, in his office in Brent, Alabama.

 

 

In November, MMI President Col. David J. Mollahan visited with Mr. Robert Nedley of the Alfred I. duPont Foundation, spoke to the Rotary Club of Decatur, Ala., and attended the Maryland Alumni Mixer.

In September 2010, MMI President Col. David J. Mollahan and VP for Institutional Advancement Suzanne McKee made trips to Washington, D.C. to meet with Congressmen as well as Tuscaloosa and Charlotte, N.C., to see alumni.
