Working Goal for the MMI Capital Campaign
THE OPPORTUNITY ($6.575 Million)
Facilities $5,275,000
Marion Military Institute’s current facilities are in need of major improvements and upgrades. Years of deferred maintenance can no longer be delayed. Existing MMI facilities will be improved to provide a cost-effective, safe, structurally sound and aesthetically pleasing environment. Along these lines, the following areas will be targeted for updating, improvement and modernization:
• Campus barracks
• Infrastructure and environmental support systems
• Staff housing
These improvements in facilities will benefit MMI’s recruitment and retention of both cadets and faculty for years to come.
Academic and Instructional Support $500,000
MMI will improve and expand its STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) offerings and capabilities through an expanded curriculum supported by modern technology and equipment for science labs, math labs, English labs and general computer labs. These efforts will allow growth in academic programs to establish pre-professional degree concentrations in engineering, nursing, pharmacy, medicine, aviation and leadership. Improvements to classroom teaching support will be achieved through the implementation of modern and proven teaching and learning program software and SMART classroom technology.
Technology Support $450,000
Administrative functions will be improved through new computer software and technology. Conversion to a virtualized environment will begin with servers, computer labs, workshops and/or technology-based training. Technology improvements will include new software to vastly improve responsiveness and effectiveness of business, enrollment management and financial aid processes.
Institutional Marketing $250,000
MMI will develop and implement a comprehensive marketing plan that will significantly broaden public knowledge and interest, especially in Alabama, about MMI’s unique role in providing a higher education folded within a military environment. MMI will aim to attract a larger population of young men and women interested in achieving a high quality college education and at the same time develop leadership and character skills provided by MMI’s military experience. A high powered advertising approach will be conducted across all media formats.
Master Planning $100,000
To transform itself into a 21st century world-class center for excellence in higher education in a military environment, and to anticipate potential future growth, MMI must develop a Master Plan for its campus. The plan will create the roadmap and timeline for a campus designed to support enrollment growth and expanded academic programs. The Brilliance in the Basics capital campaign will provide the funding necessary to hire an experienced architectural firm dedicated to providing MMI with the master plan it needs as it makes decisions for the years to come.
