The Cadet's Code of Conduct
The Honor Code- "A Cadet does not lie, cheat or steal"- is the heart of Marion Military Institute. It provides a code of ethics which prevades every activity of the Corps- personal, academic, or military- and presents a rigid standard by which cadets must live. The code is administered and enforced by the cadets and belongs to the Corps.
The Corps provides leadership experience for all cadets through a cadet battalion structure. Under the guidance of the Commandant of Cadets, the Corps is self-governing, with cadet leaders responsible for much of the day-to-day lifestyle. Each cadet is presented with a copy of the "Cadet Manual" at the beginning of the school year. By enrolling at MMI, the cadet accepts a personal resonsibility to abide by its rules and regulations. The Office of the Commandant is responsible to the President for the enforcement and interpretation of the regulations. MMI cadets are expected to behave as ladies and gentlemen at all times, whether on or off campus.
Among other courtesies, honoring the colors is very important to the life of cadets at MMI. All cadets, when outdoors, will come to the position of attention, face the flag pole, and render the hand salute at the first sound of REVEILLE in the mornings, and RETREAT in the evenings. Cadets learn to remove their head covers when indoors, where a salute is not needed in this case.
