Taylor D. "Red" Wilkins, Jr.
MMI Class of 1960
Taylor D. “Red” Wilkins, Jr. received his Associate in Arts degree from Marion Military Institute in 1960. He went on to graduate from the University of Alabama in 1963 and Cumberland School of Law in 1966. An All-American junior college football player at MMI in 1959 (awarded Best College Athlete at MMI in 1960), he was a member of the 1961 National Championship team at the University of Alabama. He also played for the Denver Broncos.
While at MMI, he served as cadet master sergeant (first sergeant) for C Company, was a member of Morgan’s Raiders and the Monogram Club, made the Commandant’s List, and earned two letters each in football and basketball and one in baseball.
A principal in the law firm of Wilkins, Bankester, Biles and Wynn, P.A. in his hometown of Bay Minette, Ala., Mr. Wilkins is a past president of the Baldwin County Bar Association and was county attorney for 8 ½ years. He has served on the MMI Board of Trustees (now Advisors) since 1999 and has been Chairman of the Board since 2004, during which time MMI became a member of the Alabama Community College System. He is also an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Bay Minette, Ala.
Mr. Wilkins served in the U.S. Infantry for 2 ½ years as battalion advisor to the 1st Battalion advisor to the 15th Regiment of the 9th AVRN Infantry Division in South Vietnam. He held the rank of Captain.
He is married to Judy Wilkins, and they have three children, Charles Wilkins, Elizabeth Wilkins Roussos and Taylor Wilkins III, and one grandchild, Taylor Wilkins IV.
