About the Brigade

The MMI Alumni Brigade (the “Brigade”) is the official alumni organization of Marion Military Institute (“MMI”). Membership in the Brigade is open to all individuals interested in the current and future success of MMI. The Brigade exists to support the school in a number of ways. Financial resources are used to fund student activities and on-campus improvements that are either not in the current budget or are otherwise not eligible for school funds. Also, Brigade members often volunteer their time to participate in school functions. It is often said that seeing the alumni giving of their time and energy makes a profound and invaluable impression on parents, students, faculty and staff.

In 2009, the Alumni Brigade was fortunate enough to serve the school and alumni in the following ways:

  • On May 1, Dr. Robert Howard, President of the Brigade, presented Col. Jim Benson with a $26,300 check made payable to the MMI Foundation. The Brigade raised the money through a successful Alumni Brigade Art Auction 2009, held during Alumni Weekend. MMI will use the donation to help complete the new press box and concession stand at the Scott G. Davis Baseball Field.

  • Funded two special events for the MMI High School Class of 2009: a dinner/dance at the Capital City Club in Montgomery and a day-trip to Six Flags over Georgia. The cadets had a memorable time over the course of the weekend and thank the Brigade for their generosity. Click here to read notes from the seniors:

  • As a tradition, Brigade volunteers assist with Cadet Move-in Days during the beginning of each school year (pictured). Families and new cadets enjoy meeting these former cadets and friends of MMI while picking up uniforms.
  • The Brigade and MMI Foundation co-hosted the 2009 J.C. Webb Memorial Dove Shoot in Safford, AL on November 5.

  • Hosted a social during Alumni Weekend 2009 for alumni and friends featuring live entertainment and heavy hors' d oeuvres.

  • Sponsored the hospitality suite at the Hampton Inn in Selma during Alumni Weekend 2009.

  • Provided uniforms for the high school baseball team.

  • Donated $1000 towards the purchase of the shotgun for the Traditional MMI Shotgun Drawing.

  • Sponsored a cookout for graduating high school and junior college cadets and their families.
